For Women in Science L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women In Science 2017 Fellowships
The L’Oréal Foundation gives the floor to young women who will be the scientists of tomorrow
Paris, 12 October - On 11 October 2017, the L’Oréal Foundation organised the “Génération Jeunes Chercheuses” (Generation Young Researchers) interactive conference, with inspiring presentations, round-table discussions and interviews, followed by the presentation of the 2017 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Fellowships in partnership with the Académie des sciences and French National Commission for UNESCO.
Open to the general public and the scientific community, this event was honoured by the presence of distinguished guests such as Marlène Schiappa, Secretary of State to the Prime Minister in charge of gender equality, but was also broadcast live on the programme's Facebook page and that of Sciences et Avenir magazine.
AN EVENT IN HONOUR OF SCIENTIFIC EXCELLENCE
The L’Oréal Foundation gave 30 young female scientists with an excellent record a grant (€15,000 for doctoral researchers and €20,000 for postdoctoral researchers) to help them at a pivotal time in their career.
“For 10 years, the L’Oréal Foundation has been working to support and develop the potential of women throughout the world. Through the For Women in Science programme, we have already supported more than 2,700 female scientists to help them break the ‘glass ceiling’”, declared Alexandra Palt, General Manager of the L’Oréal Foundation.
The thirty L’Oréal Women in Science fellowship winners were selected from more than 1,000 candidates, by an independent jury composed of academics who wanted to reward the excellence of their academic level, the originality of their scientific project, but also their desire to transmit their passion to the younger generation.
