E-course ‘Developing skills for women leadership in climate action

  • Women are still poorly represented in the global climate agenda, particularly in scientific, political, and decision-making circles. Yet they have a substantial opportunity to act on climate change. To help empower women climate leaders of the future, the Fondation L’Oréal partnered with C40 Cities in 2021 to develop an e-course on women’s leadership in climate action, as part of the Women4Climate initiative. Since its launch, more than 2,900 women have taken the e-course.

This online course aims to empower and inspire women and girls to strengthen their leadership skills to deliver green climate initiatives rooted in the principles of inclusion and equity.

The e-course was developed with the participation of academics and experts from Columbia Climate School and CARE France. We also counted on valuable contributions from inspiring climate leaders and experts.

Our Past Partnership with C40 and Women4Climate Initiative

Women4Climate initiative - 7 years of partnership with C40

The Women4Climate Initiative, launched in 2017 has been a one-of-a-kind, unique program, that has contributed to elevating women’s leadership across the world and to advancing inclusive and equitable approaches to climate action, both within C40 and its member cities. Seven years of continued partnership with the L’Oréal Group, and then Fondation L’Oréal, enabled C40 to grow the Women4Climate community to over 1000 women across 22 cities and 5 continents.

Building on the learnings and achievements of the past years, in early 2024, the Women4Climate Mentorship Programme Implementation Guide was published as a resource for cities to give them the possibility to launch new or improve existing mentorship programs to foster greater engagement with women and people from marginalized social groups leading climate change solutions.

With this new resource available, the Women4Climate Mentorship Programme supported by Fondation L’Oréal in its current format will end in February 2024.

The Fondation L'Oréal and C40 have decided to continue to collaborate to support the dissemination of the free, public online course ‘Developing Skills for Women Leadership in Climate Action’.

C40 will continue to collaborate with member cities to develop and implement inclusive solutions to the climate crisis, building on C40 flagship programs such as the Global Green New Deal Pilot Implementation Initiative and ambition to achieve 50 million good, green jobs for all.
