Our convictions and commitments

The Fondation L’Oréal supports and empowers women to shape their future and make a difference through scientific research, inclusive beauty and climate action.

Our vision

The Fondation L’Oréal supports and empowers women to shape their future and make a difference in society, focusing on three major areas that reflect our core values and sit at the heart of L’Oréal’s commitments: scientific research, inclusive beauty and climate action. We have fought for a more inclusive world for more than 20 years.

In today’s society, deeply engrained cultural perceptions and gender stereotypes still prevent women from reaching their full potential. These inequalities are heightened by climate change, and affect women’s ability to contribute equally to creating a fairer, more sustainable world. We want to help women take the lead in addressing social exclusion and developing climate solutions.

The Fondation L’Oréal has fought for a more inclusive world for more than 20 years.

Our mission

Science stands to help us overcome the great challenges of our time. Yet in Europe for example, women represent just 14%¹ of senior researchers. Women scientists must participate in the race to uncover science-led solutions that benefit both women and men. Our mission is to empower women scientists to advance in science and break the glass ceiling, and it requires an exceptional, collective effort. Through the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science program, we raise the profile of outstanding women scientists and support talented young scientists. Together, we have supported more than 3,900 researchers in more than 110 countries since 1998².

But the journey doesn’t end there. Too many women are suffering from the vulnerability and isolation that accompany poverty, illness and social deprivation. We believe that inclusive beauty contributes to the process of rebuilding lives and contributes to social inclusion. Our Beauty for a Better Life program helps people suffering physically, psychologically or socially to build their self-esteem through free beauty and wellness treatments. It also enables underprivileged women to improve their livelihoods with dedicated beauty training. On average, we reach around 21,000 vulnerable people with beauty and wellness treatments across France and we have enabled more than 27,000 people to take part in beauty training to gain access to employment, since the beginning of the program.

Climate change will be one of the greatest threats to women’s rights in the 21st century. This global phenomenon is heightening existing inequalities and discrimination.  With 70% living in poverty, women are disproportionately affected by extreme weather events, natural disasters and the decline of natural resources. Their health, access to education and livelihoods are at risk. Yet they are still insufficiently represented in climate discussions and still face greater obstacles to contribute to the green and just transition. The Fondation L’Oréal’s Women and Climate program aims to contribute redressing the balance – empowering women to lead climate solutions and raising awareness of the importance of solutions that benefit women and men equally. We aim to highlight solutions for women – powered by women.
