Beauty For a Better Life Beauty and well-being treatments for the most vulnerable – 8th Edition of the First Chance Prize in France

Beauty to live better and to feel better: This is one of the cornerstones of the L’Oréal Foundation. The First Chance Prize ("Prix Première Chance") arose from the L‘Oréal Foundation’s conviction that beauty and well-being treatments contribute to restoring self-esteem and the dignity of people with physical, psychological and social difficulties. Every year in France the L’Oréal Foundation provides assistance to ten medical and social facilities so that they may provide socio-esthetic treatments.

Applications from all across France were received and reviewed before being presented before the jury, which was summoned to the headquarters of the L’Oréal Foundation in Clichy June 13th. Of the 20 projects presented to the jury that day, the ten best received awards:

Saint Joseph Saint Luc de Lyon Hospital accommodates patients with server burns

The National EDVO Association helps those suffering from addiction

The Orêlies is a center dedicated to the elderly from Eure and Loire

Chartres Hospital treats people with obesity

The Evaluation, Rehabilitation and Social and Professional Orientation Unit of Fontenailles in Indre and Loire ensures the social and medical treatment of those with traumatic brain injuries

Chateauneuf in Charente Hospital is a retreat for people in need of palliative care

The Eclaircie is a social market located in the House of Solidarity of Arcueil for families in need

The George Mazurelle Hospital specializes in the treatment of psychological disorders in Vendée

Emmaüs Défi employs those overcoming social exclusion and helps them rejoin the labor force

L’Association Altéa Cabestan assists adults overcoming social exclusion and provides them with accommodations, lodging and job placement

Each of these institutions received a donation of 20,000€, allowing them to provide beauty treatments, administered by a social-esthetician (a professional certified by CODES through an esthetician course with a specialization in social work). The teams will be mentored by experts from CODES during an 18 month period in order to help them establish and optimize their treatment program.

The L’Oréal Foundation and CODES, partner for the First Chance Prize, wish a long and wonderful future to all of these projects.
